Genesis use Reynolds steel for many reasons, the main one being that they value the experience of the original maker of butted bicycle tubing.
Every high-quality bike out there has been influenced by the tubing technology that Reynolds have been perfecting for over 100 years.
Reynolds 853 is still made in Birmingham and developments such as 953 tubing show that steel is as relevant today as it was when they invented butted tubing.
Reynolds air-hardening, heat-treated 853 is a tube that redefined strength-to-weight ratios for steel when first introduced.
It's still genesis's number one preference when they need high strength in a frame and the Alpitude certainly needs to be tough.
A larger diameter down tube than the Altitude adds stiffness to the main frame, gusseted top and down tubes take the leverage from 150mm forks and the thicker-wall chainstays increase the lifespan of the rear under repeated impacts.
The result is a frame with enough up front to have a go at any technical trail, but it's not overbuilt and lifeless by any means - push it hard and it still feels lively like steel.
An 'energiser bunny' feel is one of the best ways anyone has put it so far, it's a bike that keeps you feeling fresh over the course of a long and tough day in the wild.
Crimp-free A-frame chainstays - enough chain and tyre clearance for winter riding and retain more stiffness than indented stays.
If the downs are more important than the ups, ISCG mounts are included for a 1x9 gear set-up.
Reynolds 853 frame tubes offer enough strength for 150mm forks without being overweight or losing the characteristic spring of steel |
